MS at last.....and a Job Offer : CONGRATS to ME

Yes.... I am finally a MS degree holder.
Successfully defended my thesis today. It was a good experience.

The other good news is that I have got a full time job. Its with National Semiconductor Corporation, Santa Clara, CA. Its a test engineer position. This is the same company with whom I did my internship more than an year ago.
Its a start of a new phase of my life now. New job, new place, beginning my life all over again..

But I am also sad that I will have to leave my friends here at school. It is so tough to leave somebody who is so close to you in all the aspects of your life. But I guess thats what life is and will have to get over this as soon as I can, but I know I may not be able to...So lets hope for the best.

Happy Independence Day - JAI HIND

At midnight, on August 15, 1947, amidst ecstatic shouting of "Jai Hind" (Long Live India), India became an independent nation, with its first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru delivering his famous speech on India's "tryst with destiny."

"Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. It is fitting that at this solemn moment, we take the pledge of dedication to the service of India and her people and to the still larger cause of humanity.

At the dawn of history, India started on her unending quest, and trackless centuries are filled with her striving and grandeur of her success and failures. Through good and ill fortune alike, she has never lost sight of that quest, forgotten the ideals which gave her strength. We end today a period of misfortunes and India discovers herself again. The achievement we celebrate today is but a step, an opening of opportunity to the greater triumphs and achievements that await us. Are we brave enough and wise enough to grasp this opportunity and accept the challenge of the future?

Freedom and power bring responsibility. The responsibility rests upon this Assembly, a sovereign body representing the sovereign people of India. Before the birth of freedom, we have endured all the pains of labour and our hearts are heavy with the memory of this sorrrow. Some of those pains continue even now. Nevertheless, the past is over and it is the future that beckons us now.

That future is not one of ease or resting but of incessant striving so that we may fulfil the pledges we have so often taken and the one we shall take today. The service of India means, the service of the millions who suffer. It means the ending of poverty and ignorance and poverty and disease and inequality of opportunity. The ambition of the greatest man of our generation has been to wipe every tear from every eye. That may be beyond us, but as long as there are tears and suffering, so long our work will not be over.

And so we have to labour and to work, and to work hard, to give reality to our dreams. Those dreams are for India, but they are also for the world, for all the nations and peoples are too closely knit together today for any one of them to imagine that it can live apart. Peace is said to be indivisble, so is freedom, so is prosperity now, and also is disaster in this one world that can no longer be split into isolated fragments.

To the people of India, whose representatives we are, we make an appeal to join us with faith and confidence in this great adventure. This is no time for petty and destructive criticism, no time for ill-will or blaming others. We have to build the noble mansion of free India where all her children may dwell.

The appointed day has come -the day appointed by destiny- and India stands forth again, after long slumber and struggle, awake, vital, free and independent. The past clings on to us still in some measure and we have to do much before we redeem the pledges we have so often taken. Yet the turning-point is past, and history begins anew for us, the history which we shall live and act and others will write about.

It is a fateful moment for us in India, for all Asia and for the world. A new star rises, the star of freedom in the East, a new hope comes into being, a vision long cherished materializes. May the star never set and that hope never be betrayed!

We rejoice in that freedom, even though clouds surround us, and many of our people are sorrowstricken and difficult problems encompass us. But freedom brings responsibilities and burdens and we have to face them in the spirit of a free and disciplined people.

On this day our first thoughts go to the architect of this freedom, the Father of our Nation, who, embodying the old spirit of India, held aloft the torch of freedom and lighted up the darkness that surrounded us. We have often been unworthy followers of his and have strayed from his message, but not only we but succeeding generations will remember this message and bear the imprint in their hearts of this great son of India, magnificent in his faith and strength and courage and humility. We shall never allow that torch of freedom to be blown out, however high the wind or stormy the tempest.

Our next thoughts must be of the unknown volunteers and soldiers of freedom who, without praise or reward, have served India even unto death.

We think also of our brothers and sisters who have been cut off from us by political boundaries and who unhappily cannot share at present in the freedom that has come. They are of us and will remain of us whatever may happen, and we shall be sharers in their good [or] ill fortune alike.

The future beckons to us. Whither do we go and what shall be our endeavour? To bring freedom and opportunity to the common man, to the peasants and workers of India; to fight and end poverty and ignorance and disease; to build up a prosperous, democratic and progressive nation, and to create social, economic and political institutions which will ensure justice and fullness of life to every man and woman.

We have hard work ahead. There is no resting for any one of us till we redeem our pledge in full, till we make all the people of India what destiny intended them to be. We are citizens of a great country on the verge of bold advance, and we have to live up to that high standard. All of us, to whatever religion we may belong, are equally the children of India with equal rights, privileges and obligations. We cannot encourage communalism or narrow-mindedness, for no nation can be great whose people are narrow in thought or in action.

To the nations and peoples of the world we send greetings and pledge ourselves to cooperate with them in furthering peace, freedom and democracy.

And to India, our much-loved motherland, the ancient, the eternal and the ever-new, we pay our reverent homage and we bind ourselves afresh to her service.

JAI HIND."

120 mph, 420 feet vertically......Sounds Scary.. Right ?

Yes it might. But thats what the ride Top Thrill Dragster at CedarPoint, Ohio is all about. Your car is released on 420 ft high vertical tracks at a speed of 120 mph. By the time you realise that you are on your way, you are already on the top and by the time of feeling of the height sinks in your are back to ground. But in between all this the thrill and the fun that this provides is to be experienced to be believed.
Do check out the videos of this ride here. (Source : The Park's website)

Will post some pics and videos later.

.......

Lately I have been putting various quotes that I feel touched by as my status messages in Yahoo Messenger. One of those was : "They alone live who live for others, the rest are more dead"

One of my friend I guess didn't like this and here is the discussion we had about this.

Friend (4:52:19 PM): i was just wondering what ur status means
Me (4:52:23 PM): hmm
Me (4:52:30 PM): what do u think
Friend (4:53:01 PM): if u live for ur life for the good of others then its a life........otherwise u are as good as dead
Me (4:53:18 PM): kindda
Me (4:53:29 PM): right, isn't it ?
Friend (4:53:59 PM): donno........i used to believe in living life for others but in todays world u die soon if u live ur life for others
Friend (4:54:21 PM): see there are right things and then there are practical things
Friend (4:54:33 PM): living ur life for others is right and is ideal
Friend (4:54:44 PM): but life is not ideality its reality
Me (4:54:57 PM): hmm
Friend (4:55:13 PM): i could be wrong......its just a though
Friend (4:55:13 PM): t
Me (4:55:53 PM): wouldn't it be ideal if one can live a ideal life in reality
Friend (4:56:49 PM): well if it was possibe to live an ideal life in reality then we would not be chatting like this right now
Me (4:56:49 PM): but I guess its not possible
Me (4:57:02 PM): meaning ?
Friend (4:57:19 PM): in a nutshell.......its not possible to live an ideal life

What do you think about this ?

This is really true : Will Someone miss me someday.......

I got this poem as a forwarded email from my friend. At first I thought it to be one of those typical forwards but on careful thinking I think that this is really true and we definitely need to give it a thought and act accordingly.

Here is the poem:

"Will someone miss me someday . ."

I see the sun in the sky
Trees are moving through the wind
Who am I..?
What's my place in this great world..?
Am I like the trees..?
Like the sun..?
Like the sky..?
I try to find my way in this life
But that isn't easy to me

Some people say...
When you body die,
your soul live further
you will live further in the mind of your friends..
But what if your soul dies..?
You have to go on Even when you don't want..

Will someone miss me someday, when I die in this big world . . .

Today...........................

Today before you think of saying an unkind word
Think of someone who can't speak
Before you complain about the taste of your food
Think of someone who has nothing to eat

Today before you complain about your husband or wife
Think of someone who's crying out to God for a companion
Before you complain about life
Think of someone who went too early to heaven

Today before you complain about your children
Think of someone who desires children but they're barren
Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep
Think of the people who are living in the streets
Before whining about the distance you drive
Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet
And when you are tired and complain about your job
Think of the unemployed, the disabled and those who wished they had your job

But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another
Remember that not one of us are without sin and we all answer to one maker
And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down
Put a smile on your face and thank God you're alive and still around

Life is a gift
Live it.
Enjoy it..
Celebrate it..
And fulfill it.....

History behind 12 'o' clock for Sardars....

People usually associate the dialogue BARAH BAJ GAYE (It's 12 '0' clock) with Sardars (Sikhs). It is a remark which means that they go into a 'mad' mood at twelve o' clock and start acting crazy and do all sorts of crazy things. We even say this dialogue to anybody who acts really foolish at any point of time. But not many of us are aware of the facts behind the origin of this dialogue. Here is a brief version of these facts:

"This is about the period when India was under the subjugation of the Afghans, the Mughals and the Turks. It was a habit of the marauders to loot the masses (mainly Hindus), take the spoils of war and along with them take away all their women for their pleasure. The only people who stood against these people were the Sardars. With 'guerilla' tactics, they attacked the Muslim camps and liberated the Hindu women from the clutches. The usual time of such attacks was either at noon, or midnight. The attacks were so ferocious, that the Muslims began dreading the expected attacks of the Sikhs at 12 o' clock, midnight or noon".
It was these people who coined the phrase that "Sardaron ke barah baj gaye".

And Now, THE IRONY:
The descendents of the rescued people are making fun of the rescuers!!!!! I think any person who repeats this sentence against the Sikhs is making fun of the meekness of his own lineage.

So now I guess anybody who reads this might reconsider before using this dialogue.

Microsoft IE vs. the rest of the Browser world

CNET has reviewed and presented a comparison of the most widely used web browsers around the world. The browsers compared and reviewed are Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6, Mozilla's Firefox, Apple Safari, Opera 8, Deepnet Explorer and Netscape 8. Clearly from the results Firefox wins over the rest.
So if still stuck with IE or others, time to switch to firefox.

Here is the whole article at CNET.com.

Here is the complete comparison chart at CNET.com.

SPRING Festival ...Gala Time.......... Yipppeeeeeeeeeeeee

It was a gala time here at RIT today evening. We have this Spring Festival going on. It has all sorts of different activities and the good thing is that most of them are free. Today we had this thing called Pizza War. No No... it is not one of those food fight kind of thing where people are supposed to throw food, in this case pizzas at each other. It was a so called brand war. We had pizzas from different vendors out here in Rochester. Yes it was free. We were supposed to eat all the brands and then vote for the ones that we liked the best. This was just the beginning.
Next thing going on is Carnival. Ohh man. It was so terrific fun. We had all these rides (ofcourse free). It was after such a long time that I got a chance to sit in all these rides. Although they were not that humungous type of rides but whatever it was it was good enough and above all it was great fun.
This Spring Festival is going to continue over the weekend and we have too many interesting things lined up for tommorrow. So got to get ready for some more fun tommorrow provided I find some company to go along. Otherwise its no fun going alone.
Anybody want to join ?

Have a great Spring.

THANK YOU, Mr. Wright......

Year 2000 - The Entire Cricket World is in turmoil, shocked, flabbergasted, shocked.

Indian Cricket is in tatters. Match fixing allegations, players suspended, a completely morally shaken Indian cricket team existed that nobody had any trust on.

Enters Mr Wright. John Wright of New Zealand. And what a transformation. From then there had been no looking back. Suddenly the entire image of Indian cricket team changed. People started respecting them and the team with the backing of this great coach and ofcourse the fellow country men and women, started performing. There have been significant achievements during John Wright's tenure.

The fabulous come from behind test series victory over Australia @ Home, a test match victory in England, the Natwest One day series victory in England, the one day and test series victories over Pakistan in Pakistan, a test victory and a drawn test series against Australia in Australia and ofcourse India making it to the finals of the WORLD CUP in South Africa are some of the achievements of Indian team under his reign.

The players saw a philosopher, a guide, a mentor in Wright and what was achieved was sheer magic. The coach-captain combination went off well without friction and this resulted in positive effect and attitude among the team members as well. Credit has to be given to Ganguly-Wright team for whatever heights Indian cricket, off late has seen. The famous World Cup huddle just showed the unity..India had become a force to reckon with in world cricket.

The current India-Pakistan one day series was his last series as India's coach and a victory here would have been an ideal farewell to him, but that was not meant to be. Indian cricket is again at crossroads yet again..what remains to be seen whether newer heights are reached or not....

But Thank you, Mr.Wright for turning a bunch of boys in blue into men in blue and showing what team spirit is....the Indian team still crumbles under pressure but at least there is no fear and insecurity now.....

THANK YOU and GOOD LUCK.

Ye PAL ( This Moment )

I was just listening to this song. I don't know how did I even think of this and decided to play it. While listening to this I just thought, how true is this. Is it real what it means. I think yes.

Hum rahe ya na rahe kal,
Kal, yaad aayenge yeh pal,
Pal, yeh hain pyaar ke pal.
----- from Album "PAL" by "Kay Kay"

The gist of this phrase is
" Even if we are not there in this world tommorrow what will remain of us is the moments of love. Those are the moments, moments of love that will be remembered by everybody"

Internet Explorer 7.0

Microsoft (MS) announced that it is going to release a new version (7.0) of its web browser Internet Explorer which is supposed to have more security features and cover all the loop holes that are there in its present version. Is it another shot by MS to grab back its share in the browser market which has dropped to around 90% from 95% after the release of Mozilla's firefox ? Also MS says that this new version will require atleast Win XP SP2 to run IE 7.0, so what about the consumers using OS other that Win XP ? Does MS have anything up in the line for them also ?

Better than expected

I did not think that my website is this popular, but it turned out that my website is being viewed more than I thought it was.
